New publication: Empirical Insights into 5G Deployments in Highway Operational Environments and Comparative Performance with 4G

27 April 2024

Happy to see pieces of our work in the Pandora project published in the special issue New Advances of Microwave and Optical Communication from the MDPI Electronics Journal (https://doi.org/10.3390/electronics13081533).

Empirical Insights into 5G Deployments in Highway Operational Environments and Comparative Performance with 4G

Based on field trials for the three cellular network operators in Greece, we examine 5G network performance across highway operational scenarios, revealing how geographic and infrastructural factors influence signal variability and quality. The analysis highlights specific challenges in integrating 5G with existing 4G infrastructure, including issues with interference, latency, and throughput. Moreover, it stresses the need for targeted enhancements to optimize network performance in order to capitalize on 5G's capabilities in high-speed travel conditions.
