We are very pleased to see the results of the work carried out in the context of the PANDORA project published in the AEU - International Journal of Electronics and Communications.
Using the operating environment of Tripolis, the capital of the Peloponnese Region, as a case study, the work in this paper contributes empirical evidence from field trials to the discussion on the relative performance of 4G and 5G systems across three cellular networks in Greece.
The images provided below illustrate the route taken in Tripoli and the setup involving three mobile smartphones, each assigned to a different provider, used for simultaneous 4G/5G measurements. The table provides an indicative summary of system availability for both networks across the three operators. While all operators exhibit well-developed 4G networks, the differences in their 5G strategies are evident.
Operator | 5G availability | 4G availability |
---|---|---|
A | 86 % | 99 % |
B | 17 % | 94 % |
C | 0 % | 100 % |
