The Wireless and Mobile Communications Lab (WMCLab) participated in the European Conference on Antennas and Propagation (EuCAP 2025), held in Stockholm, Sweden, from 30 March to 4 April 2025 (conference website).
Prof. G. Athanasiadou presented the paper “Autonomous Drone Measurement Approach for Flying Base Stations”, authored by Sotirios Tsakalidis, George Tsoulos, Georgia Athanasiadou, and Vasileios Tsoulos.
The paper introduces an innovative system for measuring the transmission patterns of flying base stations using two drones. One drone serves as a stationary transmitting source, while the second drone follows predefined trajectories to capture the received signal strength. This approach provides a foundation for the development of UAV-based measurement techniques aimed at the efficient deployment and optimization of aerial ad-hoc communication networks.
In parallel, continuous sensor data is collected onboard the surveying drone and transmitted in real time to a ground station, contributing to ongoing research in IoT-enabled systems.
This work is supported by the SYNERGIES project, funded by the European Commission Horizon Europe program, Grant Agreement No. 101069839 (WMCLab's role in SYNERGIES).
